Tomorrow, April 23, grab your popcorn (or your chile cheese fries!) and settle in for David Fincher’s critically acclaimed thriller Gone Girl, adapted from Gillian Flynn’s bestseller and starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike. We hope to see you at 6:30 p.m. at Violet Crown!
Next Wednesday, April 30, multi-Oscar nominated The Hours screens. Starring Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman, and Julianne Moore, the film intertwines the stories of three women in Michael Cunningham’s 1998 tribute to the Virginia Woolf classic Mrs. Dalloway.
On the following Wednesday, May 7, the stunning debut feature documentary from Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie, Sugarcane, offers an illuminating cinematic portrait of a community during a moment of profound reckoning. The film received raves, including winning the 2024 Directing Award at the Sundance Film Festival.
The Literary Film Series culminates the week of the Festival with showings on Wednesday and Thursday, May 14 and 15, just before the Festival opens. The Joy Luck Club, adapted from Amy Tan’s beloved novel, will screen Wednesday, May 14, priming us for Tan’s appearance at the Festival.
JUST CONFIRMED! The following night, Thursday, May 15,American Fictionwill show. The BAFTA winning, Oscar-nominated film will be screened just one day before filmmaker Cord Jefferson speaks on the main stage with Percival Everett, author of Erasure, on which American Fiction is based.
