In two short years, your enthusiasm for the Santa Fe International Literary Festival has made our event a mainstay of Santa Fe’s cultural calendar. Your desire to engage with the vital voices, ideas, and issues of our time has led you to embrace and invest in our vision of establishing a world-class literary festival in a city and state steeped in a long and ever vibrant history of storytelling. Your hopes for the Festival’s future ring loud and clear.

We can never thank you enough for bringing us this far. Now, as we strive to move the Festival forward to 2024—and beyond—we are in critical need of your continued support.

On this Giving Tuesday, as you plan your year-end giving, we ask you to consider what’s ahead for the Festival.

As we noted in our October newsletter, plans for our next gathering on May 17–19, 2024, are well underway. We’re building a once-in-a-lifetime lineup of authors from near and far—writers of literary fiction, nonfiction, poetry, and more who will participate in keynote talks, intimate conversations, and other special events. Lynsey Addario, Julia Alvarez, David Grann, Javier Zamora, and Santa Fe’s own Hampton Sides and Arthur Sze will be among our featured guests. Stay tuned as more authors are announced in the coming months.

See Our 2024 Authors

We’ll continue to put a spotlight on New Mexico’s finest contemporary voices and provide opportunities for our community’s young writers and readers to join in, learn from, and be inspired by the life-affirming experience of books, language, and literacy. And we’ll carry on our collaborations with the Santa Fe Public Library, as well as area schools, nonprofits, businesses, and others who share our belief that writing and reading build understanding, compassion, and community.

Next year will be critical to building a lasting foundation for the Festival. The work to come includes hiring our first paid executive director to lead our small but mighty team of consultants and volunteers, as well as securing a much-needed office space for our operations next year. And we have submitted the paperwork to become an independent 501(c)3.

From the beginning, we’ve worked closely with Fractured Atlas, a nationally acclaimed organization that has served as our umbrella nonprofit fiscal agent. Fractured Atlas helps thousands of arts organizations take tax-deductible donations before committing to the arduous and expensive task of becoming a stand-alone nonprofit, and their support has been invaluable in getting the Festival successfully off the ground. Now, as we wait for the IRS to issue our nonprofit status (which can take a full year), Fractured Atlas will remain by our side. In short, we are growing up as an organization and looking ahead to a bright future.

We hope that you will continue to have faith in our future as we strive to build a Festival that reflects the best of our city and state. With your contribution, the Santa Fe International Literary Festival will grow more deeply rooted in our community while connecting passionate readers and a diversity of authors in a magical circle of storytelling.
