Dear Festival Friends,

Because we can’t live on books alone (though we’ve tried), we have some other yummy offerings for festivalgoers who want to round out their literary weekend in Santa Fe. Our ever-popular Walk & Talks and Spirit Tastings are led by some of our featured authors and in-the-know locals, and tickets are going fast.

On Saturday, May 18, at 2:30 p.m., join novelist and Georgia O’Keeffe biographer Roxana Robinson on a stroll to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, where you’ll learn about the artist’s fascinating life and her extensive personal library full of books by her many writer friends. Then, ogle her paintings on a self-guided tour of the museum.

After that, it’s time for a cocktail! On Saturday at 4:00 p.m., consider a spirited adventure with James Beard Award-winning chef Fernando Olea at his restaurant, Sazón, to learn the differences between sotol, bacanora, tequila, and mezcal, and enjoy exceptional examples of each.

On Sunday, you have a tough decision. At 1:00 p.m., historian, author, and Willa Cather authority Garrett Peck will lead a walk through areas of downtown Santa Fe that inspired Cather’s classic Death Comes for the Archbishop. Also at 1:00, Kakawa Chocolate House owner and Festival friend Bonnie Bennett will guide you on what we like to call the Chocolate Immersion, a rich conversation about chocolate’s long history, complete with seriously fine samples. So what will it be: Cather or cocoa? Either way, you’ll want to cap off the afternoon with one more cocktail. At 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, hang out with cookbook author and four-time James Beard Award winner Cheryl Alters Jamison at Los Poblanos Farm Shop Norte, where you can raise a glass of locally made botanical spirits. Salud!
