The mini film festival will open on April 16 with The Cider House Rules, based on John Irving’s classic novel and starring Tobey Maguire. Next, David Fincher’s Gone Girl, adapted from Gillian Flynn’s bestseller and starring Ben Affleck and Rosamund Pike, will show on April 23. April 30 will feature The Hours, based on Michael Cunningham’s 1998 tribute to the Virginia Woolf classic Mrs. Dalloway. On May 7, the acclaimed debut feature documentary from Julian Brave NoiseCat and Emily Kassie, Sugarcane, offers an epic cinematic portrait of a community during a moment of international reckoning. NoiseCat will participate in the Festival’s Celebration of the Life and Legacy of N. Scott Momaday on May 17. The film series will culminate in a showing of The Joy Luck Club. Adapted from Amy Tan’s beloved novel, the film will screen May 14, shortly before the start of Festival, where Tan will speak on the Festival Main Stage on Saturday morning, May 17. Tan is also the author of The Kitchen God’s Wife and, most recently, The Backyard Bird Chronicles. All films show at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays at Violet Crown.
